Using a Fantasy Football Trade Calculator

Below each trade heading on this page, you can see DataForce's trade balancer. It provides you with a rough idea of how balanced the trade is, and which side is favored. Green in balanced; yellow is a bit imbalanced; red will probably be protested. If the color is on the left side of the balance bar, it means you're favored; if its on the right side, the person who offered you the trade is favored.

Be aware that this is just one opinion (the DataForce calculator's opinion) among many. We encourage you to locate and use a more precise trade calculator. Not merely a bar indicating general categories like green, yellow and red. These tools exist all over the internet, and some are better than others, but we can't vouch for any particular calculator. For one thing, you seldom know exactly how players are valued in the calculators, nor do you know how current the valuation is that is being used. So, take everything you learn from a trade calculator with a grain of salt.

Different calculators will also provide different options. Here's a simple one, from Fantasy Sports Portal, but it's not likely to answer all your questions. FootballGuys.com has a calculator just to evaluate trading picks, not players. That's very handy during a draft. Other calculators are specific to multi-year leagues like dynasties. See DynastyTradeCalculator for this. Still others are known for in-season trade calculators, like www.FantasyGuru.com, though you're likely to pay for this service.

Whatever you choose, remember that no calculator will know the exact scoring and roster rules of your league, or the particular needs of your team, so you can never rely entirely on any third-party calculation. In the end, each trade must address the specifics of your team's needs.
