I’ve played or managed online fantasy sports for over 30 years. Never seen this.
Maybe for the first time ever, it’s worth your while to draft a kicker before your last couple rounds.
That’s because, for the first time in my memory, The Wonk thinks you should.
Take a look at the kicker projections for “Raw Stats.” Ignore “Enhanced” stats, which tends to smooth out the corners where the luck factor kicks in–pun intended, since no position exhibits the “luck factor” like place kickers. Just look at the raw data.
What do you see for 4for4.com? For the Wonk Way? For Fantasy Nerds? For FantasyPros?
The very same kickers are at the top of each, and by a significant margin. So much so that the suggested auction price (raw stats again, not enhanced stats) rises to $5 or more! $5 for a freakin’ placekicker?

Thanks Lee, I liked this post. I have always been pro kicker. In fact, I always try got get the best kicker. I always wondered why to consensus was to what to end of a draft to get a starter? I feel the same about defenses. I like to get the best. Why draft longshots skill players before your kickers and defense. I like to do this around 12 or 13.

Yeah Tim, I still think it’s probably more of a bestball strategy except in deeper lineups. But go kickers! 🙂
For me, the kicker strategy has always been to draft a kicker whose home games are indoors. Maximize number of games with a controlled climate. Then, obviously, you draft a team that can score, like Dallas, over a team that can’t, like Arizona.
