Protesting a Fantasy Football Trade

If you believe a trade in your league is so unbalanced that it may reflect collusion between the owners, or so lopsided that it threatens the integrity of the league, you may request a trade review. DataForce commissioners look at every trade, but we seldom overturn one unless a review is requested. Your identity as the requester stays anonymous.

Trades are processed immediately upon acceptance, but the commissioner may reverse them if necessary. You must request a review within 12 hours of the trade's acceptance:

  1. Leagues hosted on DataForce: click the review option at the bottom of the trade notification email. One click does the job; you won't need this page. Make sure trade notifications are turned on in your Owner → Setup page so you can request reviews when needed. You may request up to five reviews per year; trades that are overturned don't count.
  2. Leagues hosted on MyFantasyLeague: use this page (Trades → Request MFL Review). Select the trade from the drop-down, which fills in the teams and players automatically, then explain why you believe it should be overturned.

How Trade Reviews Work

When a review is requested, the trading owners are notified, the other owners in the league are asked to vote, and a jury of ten peers from similar leagues is asked to vote as well. Votes are collected until 24 hours after the trade was accepted, and the commissioner then decides, sooner if the result is clear or games are about to begin.

The commissioner reserves the right to veto any trade for any reason, but a veto usually means all of the following are true:

  • At least three owners in the league, including the requester, voted against the trade.
  • Within the league, "no" votes outnumber "yes" votes, and the "no" voters agree on which side wins the trade.
  • On the impartial jury, "no" votes outnumber "yes" votes, and the "no" voters agree on which side wins the trade.

The commissioner may also consult trade calculators, especially when a voter or trader cites one. Learn more about trade reviews in the rulebook.

Request a Trade Review

This page is used to request a review for a recent trade (within 12 hours of acceptance) for any league hosted on MyFantasyLeague. This review request will be emailed to the commissioner, to the other owners in the league, and to ten random peer reviewers. Your identity will remain anonymous.

Please tell us why you believe this trade should be overturned. DO NOT request a review merely because you think one team is getting a better deal. There are three legitimate reasons for requesting a review, so here are some suggestions to help plead your case:

  1. Potential Collusion: If you see hints of collusion between these two owners in this and/or other leagues, show us where. Cheating will not be tolerated.
  2. Damages the League: If you believe that the trade is SO UNBALANCED that it threatens the integrity of the league, AND the league becomes more unbalanced as a result of the trade, tell us why. If you believe team A is seriously fleecing team B, the strongest argument is to tell us how much more than team A you will offer team B for the same players/picks. (It should be a lot more, and we may hold you to it.)
  3. Probable Error: If a trade looks like an obvious error or misunderstanding of the rules, point it out. For example, if a team trades picks in rounds 2 and 4 for rounds 3 and 5, it's probably not on purpose.

Why are you requesting a review?
